Application of 3D
3D modelling is
creating and working on graphical images that have three dimensions. 3d
modelling is used for things like gaming, fashion, film, 3d printing and so on
I am going to talk about the things I have listed and talk about how they are
used in 3d modelling below.
Gaming
3D modelling is used in a lot of video games in the modern era games
such as call of duty uses 3D modelling for the characters, weapons and the
environment around. The human eye sees in 3 dimensions this means that when
playing a game that uses 3d modelling it catches the eye more than a 2D game
would. In 3D modelling characters are more realistic then a 2D model character
a 2D character would be flat and that won’t be as interesting this is why many
gaming companies opt for 3D then 2D. one example where gaming uses 3D modelling is call of duty where they create the characters.
Movies
Movies use 3d modelling to create landscape and
characters like aliens. An example of this is a movie called avatar
in this film they used 3D modelling to create the backgrounds and landscapes
they made this animated. Another example in the film venom they used 3D
modelling to create the main character.
This is the Venom character they created him by
using 3D modelling.
Fashion
3D modelling can be used in fashion to create
complex designs which can’t be done by hand. They sometimes they create 3D
models in their 3D clothes and use these at events. They can even be used for
advertisement purposes this way they save a lot of money by not hiring an
actual model to pose for them in adverts.
3D printing
3D
printing is used for various things like clothing, creating weapons and props.
3D printing is used in fashion now and it will only become more popular as lots
of designers are using it like Francis Bitonti who creates dresses by using 3D
printers he created one for a famous model named Dita von Teese. It is also
used in gaming for example you can make a 3D printed mouse and you can also use
it for board games for creating chess pieces. 3D printing can also be used in
films to create masks and costumes for example in the film guardians of the
galaxy they printed the costume for the character Korath the pursuer.

Description of what polygons are in relation to
3D models
In 3D computer
graphics, Polygonal modelling is an approach
for modelling objects by representing or approximating their surfaces
using polygons. Polygonal modelling is
well suited to scan line rendering and is therefore the method of choice for
real-time computer graphics. They are usually created when creating animals for
example when we did the shark. When using polygon modelling you can
use it to smooth the edges for example we used mesh smooth to make the edges
around the shark smoother and this makes it visually more realistic.
Displaying 3D animations
Lighting is very important when coming to 3D
modelling when creating 3D animations as it will
Help you see the model without light the
model you are creating will become very dark and it will not look very
interesting. When creating our shark we had to make sure the light was
following the shark if it was not you won’t be able to see anything. Texture is
another very important when you are rendering your model because texture
affects the way the light is affected of the model. Modelling is creating a
brand new model of your choice for us it was a temple or the shark and making
improvements to it.
Geometric
theory
Lines
Lines can be created and these are the start of
creating something with a spline. Vertices can be added to the lines so you can
move them around and put into the positions you wish to place them in and then
can be extruded or smoothed out.
Vertices Vertices are the points of the corners and are used in computer graphics. When editing a poly in 3D the vertices can be very easy to select and modify and be used to change the shape you are trying to make. They can be added to the model you are making when editing a mesh to increase the smoothness of the shape.
Edge
Edges are the
sides of a polygon and these are found in all models. These edges form when two
vertices come together and connect.
Point cloud
A point
cloud is a set of data points in space. Point
clouds are generally produced by 3D scanners, which measure a large number
of points on the external surfaces of objects around them. As the output of 3D
scanning processes, point clouds are used for many purposes, including to
create 3D cad models
for manufactured parts, for quality inspection,
and for a multitude of visualization, animation, rendering applications.
Polygon
Faces
Meshes
Meshes are a collection of faces,
vertices and edges and these are the shape or model, the most popular kind of
mesh is called the polygon mesh which are vertices, edges and faces.
Polygon
Polygons are put together to
build the model you are looking to create and each one is connected at their
own vertex points and when these are all connected to each other they create
the model.
Faces
Faces are flat, and they are
2 dimensional and these make up the mesh for example let’s say you have a
rectangle which has 6 faces, and these are put together they become a 3 shape.
Sometimes to give the mesh an appearance you can apply textures and
shading to them to make your model stand out.
3ds max
3Ds
max is created by Auto desk and you can get a free 3 year trial if you are a
student or teacher and this is a very big advantage as students will get a free
trial and maybe this software will make them go towards the 3d modelling
business. 3Ds max is one of the most popular for 3D modelling it used for
films, games and architecture and so on one very famous gaming company called
Ubisoft which are known for creating of the best known games called assassins
creed use 3Ds max to create worlds for the game Assassins creed. Another reason
to use 3ds max is that lots of businesses out there are using this software
over others so if you are wanting to get into 3D modelling for your future
career then this is the one to go for as you will most likely be using it. One
of the disadvantages of 3Ds max is that it is quite hard to learn.
C4D
Cinema 4D is popular but is not as popular as 3Ds
max it is believed to be much faster than the 3Ds max and is easier to use. It
is best for single artists or small teams that wish to use this software but it
is not recommended for big companies like Ubisoft and this is where cinema 4D
fall short. the disadvantages for it is that there are not a lot of modelling
tools which is why big companies tend to stay away from it as 3ds max gives
them more options to render.
Blender
Blender was made in 2002 and it is used to make
animated films, visual effects and gaming. One of the advantages of blender are
that it is free and it will run on any computer or laptop that you may have.
Blender also tend to update their software quite a lot which is a great thing
because they are always making improvement to making it better. Blender is on
the rise and maybe in a few years businesses may start to use it one of the
disadvantages of blender is a similar one to C4D it does not have many tools
like 3Ds max. Another one is that blender is quite hard to use.
My opinion is that if you are going to choose out
of the three you should go for 3Ds max because it is more professional and you
will start to like it a lot when you get the grasp of it and if you want to go
in the 3D modelling industry this is the best one to use as loads of companies
use it.
How i created the shark
I went on 3Ds max and I went to create a box the
size for it was 3M long by 1M wide and height and then the height segments to 3
each. Then I went to View port per view settings then onto per-view settings
and selected edge faces this then shows the polygons that the object is made
of.
After you have
done this you right click on the shape and go to convert to editable poly and
this will allow you to create the front and the back of the shark. From the
front you click on the middle polygon and you drag it out.
When you have pulled out the front face of the
shark you do the fin. To make the fin you click the middle polygon and the top
of the shark and click on extrude and do not extrude it too much. Then you use
the outline tool to make it slimmer after this choose the select and move tool
to pull it back
Then you go to back of the shark and make the tail
just like the front of it you select the middle polygon and drag it out.
After you have pulled out the tail the next thing to do is that you go to the tail and press Crtl and select the two lines and press the connect button. This will give you an extra polygon and you then go back to the polygon and press extrude then outline and make it lean back. You follow the same instructions for the bottom tail.
When making the
fins near the sharks side you will need to go on edges mode select the outer
edge and click on Chamfer tool this creates a separate little polygon. When you
can see this little polygon you go back to polygon and click on extrude and
make it lean back.
When you have created
the fins for the shark you have another step to do and that is going to the
modifier list and clicking mesh smooth this smooth the shark out making it look
more realistic.
How I created the temple
Firstly I created the rectangles, circles and the star. I created these by using the spline tool and I used the measurements which were given to me through the tutorial which was available through the cloud.
After I created the shapes I had to create a line using the spline tool. Then after this I went on to compound objects to create the pillar I had to set the path to distance and then add the measurements which was written down in the tutorial it was important to make sure we had the right measurements to get the pillar right.
I had to add more detail to the pillar making it more realistic I did this by using the compound object for example at the bottom of the pillar I had to make sure it was not just a round circle and that it looked realistic.
The next thing was to create the temple layout. To start off the temple I used the array tool to create the exact copy of the pillars which I had to multiply to create more off there had to be around 10 pillars which had to be equally spaced out from each other and had to be two rows opposite which where the roof was going to be. Then I had to create a circle of pillars which I done by holding down the shift key and holding down till it created a copy and done this till I created a circle of the pillars. I used the hierarchy tool and turned on the affect pivot which meant I could create more pillars. Then I went to the array tool and I changed all the settings and I put in 30 for the z axis for the rotate row and for the offset I changed the number of copies to 12.
For the first roof I created a shape which I made from by looking at the tutorial and it was a half semi-circle and for the measurements I did 1000cm for the height and for the width I did 1700cm after I done this I used the Bezier tool which made the shape look smooth. Then I used the lathe tool which made it look more 3D and a bit more like a roof which I aligned to the circle off pillars.
For the second roof I made a shape and followed the tutorial which said extrude it by 10000 and place it on top off the two rows of pillars. After this I created a box and the measurements were 4000 x 10000 x 2000 with 16 length segments and 40 width segments. Then I selected the box and changed it to editable poly then I selected the outer edge of the box then I moved it up to the z axis by 790cm and scaled it to 46% and this sorted out the second roof which is shown down below.
To finish off my temple I created a large box underneath it after this I had completed my temple which was guided to me by the tutorial I was given.
for the animation i created a curved line then added the camera and told the camera to follow the line in which it went around the temple to finish off my animation.

My Castle
What we had to do
We had to produce a minimum of 9 objects which could include cannon,catipult,2 Characters, siege tower, Water well and will mill. Then after completing our models we had to make sure the texture was right and it went with out models then we had to render our castle.
How I made some of my models
Cannon
For the cannon I created a tube after I created a tube I made a box with the spline tool to create them like steps and on the end of the box I made 4 more tubes and here is where I created my wheels.
for my catapult the way I created it was I was given a tutorial which was available on the cloud and from there I copied the instructions given to me and I finally ended up with my final model.
Giant
for my giant I used the biped which was available to me through 3ds max then I individually added the uv map modifier on him which was going let me see the textures once I was going to render if I had not done this it would not let me do this.
Knight
The Knight i got from the internet by downloading it and the credits go to samize who created the knight i got the model from turbosquid
Tree
The way i made my tree was adding a block and then after that i made another square block at the top. after this was done i went to choose my textures for the log i went for a wood texture and made it quite dark.
My Poster
This is my poster i created this by doing a render and doing it at a high quality then i used the snipping tool to get the rendered bit out and then i placed it in Photoshop in which where i added my text of my castle and my name. The reason why i went for the name Chelsea FC was because my flag was Chelsea so i thought that would be the suitable name
This is my final video
